Dr. Mike's Ice Cream Shop: Celebrating 50 Years of Classic, Handmade Ice Cream in Bethel, CT

Stopped here with the family while in CT. Ample parking, picnic tables. They were celebrating 50 years of Dr. Mike. Glad to see small businesses still thriving! Long lines, HOWEVER, please have grace for the staff, be patient and tip! There was only one young lady yesterday. She took orders then made the orders. She greeted everyone with a smile even though the lines never ended and she was all alone. What grace! Ice was good. Generous sizes and portions. Affordable also! We had a good time outdoors on the first 80 degree day of 2025. Will be back if ever in the area!

Best ice cream in the area. Chocolate Lace is their longtime flavor- a unique kind of vanilla with a candy crunch and a hint of chocolate. The rich chocolate is unbeatable. They make their own whipped cream which I would recommend trying on a Sundae. Under new ownership they put in a window which gives the store more space- they offer more flavors, and faster service.

I had been dreaming about a Dr Mikes Hot Fudge Sundae all winter! Two scoops of my favorite ice cream- the best chocolate and my fave-coffee! Add on top their homemade hot fudge-and the crème fraiche- it was heaven! I can’t wait to go back!!

We live in a neighboring town and drive to Bethel for this ice cream. It’s hands down the best ice cream in the surrounding county, if not the state. It’s been around 50 years for a reason. If you’re local, you’re lucky. If you’re not, mark Dr Mike’s on your gps and GO! And don’t forget to add the homemade whipped cream as a topping! Delicious!

50 years and going strong! Great selection of ice cream and toppings. The whipped cream is made fresh! Try the chocolate lace - it's made at the shop next door and it really good. Servings are large, so my preference is a child's size in a larger cup so there's room for toppings. Since COVID they have changed the ordering so you don't have to try to get into the small building. (An improvement, IMO.) Plus there's a large parking lot. We've been coming here for years and hoping for many more.

Cute little ice cream shop. Walk up window. Variety of flavors like Guinness, Black Raspberry, and peanut butter Oreo along with the classics. Vegan vanilla available. Super friendly staff. Great prices. LARGE servings. This was a small mango sorbet and between 2 of us we barely made a dent. I would recommend kiddie if you don’t eat a lot of ice cream.

Whenever we are in town visiting family, we always make a trip or 2 to Dr. Mike's. Love their hot fudge sundaes and their Black Raspberry is amazing!

Stopped here on a whim after lunch and oh man are we glad we did! This is SO good. So thick and creamy, and such generous portions. I got the kiddie peanut butter Oreo, and it’s massive and so delicious. Highly recommend, an a super cute place to boot.
